What is Lifestyle Medicine?

Lifestyle Medicine is the use of evidence-based lifestyle therapeutic interventions—including a whole-food, plant-predominant eating pattern, regular physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of risky substances, and positive social connections—as primary modalities, delivered by clinicians trained and certified in this specialty, to prevent, treat, and often reverse chronic disease.

  • The American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) was formed in 2004 and is the medical professional society for those dedicated to the advancement and clinical practice of Lifestyle Medicine as the foundation of a transformed and sustainable health care system. Learn more at http://www.lifestylemedicine.org.
  • The American Board of Lifestyle Medicine (ABLM) sets and maintains standards for assessment and credentialing of physicians in Lifestyle Medicine. Certification as an ABLM diplomate signifies specialized knowledge in the practice of Lifestyle Medicine and distinguishes a physician as having achieved competency in Lifestyle Medicine. Learn more at http://www.ablm.co.
  • ABLM initiated the certification process in 2017. As of January 2021, 2,473 physicians, along with 564 professionals and 210 practitioners across 65 countries have been board-certified in Lifestyle Medicine.

Patient Referral

In the context of a busy medical practice, you may not be able to spend as much time as you would like to help your patients make lifestyle changes. As a specialized, nonprofit health care organization, the Ozark Center for Lifestyle Medicine is committed to helping patients who would benefit from a more intensive approach to lifestyle changes.

Please consider referring any patient that you feel would benefit from in-depth, focused attention on the why and how of behavior change related to the six pillars of lifestyle medicine.   We will send you a Lifestyle Medicine Consultation Report upon the completion of the initial consultation and periodically during the course of follow-up visits.  Although we will not make any changes to patient medications, in our recommendations, we will alert you to the possible need for dose reductions as a patient’s health improves.  Our goal is to provide an adjunctive service to facilitate the improvement of the health of patients under your care.

We would be grateful for the opportunity to work cooperatively with you to promote the health of patients in Arkansas.
